Chopard's Mille Miglia collection introduces a new design for the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph. This 40.5 mm timepiece features a case made from Chopard's exclusive Lucent Steel™, boasting an 80% recycling rate. The dial, named ‘La Gara’ after the Italian word for race, draws inspiration from the black and white chequered flag of motor-racing victory. The watch is designed for optimal legibility with a 'glass box' crystal enhancing visibility.
Reflecting the engineering marvels of both watches and cars, Chopard has been linked with the automobile world since 1988 as the official timekeeper for Italy's renowned 1000 Miglia race. Co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele has participated annually, covering over 30,000 miles since 1989. This long-standing partnership has resulted in 36 editions of the Mille Miglia collection, capturing the essence of what Enzo Ferrari called 'the most beautiful race in the world'.
The meticulous construction of the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph's case, made from Lucent Steel™, ensures durability and aesthetic appeal. This steel is 50% harder than conventional steel, making it resilient against the impacts of competitive driving. The case features polished and satin-brushed finishes, with knurled pushers resembling brake pedals and a notched crown for optimal grip. The redesigned pin buckle mirrors the case's finish.
The ‘La Gara’ dial features a two-tone design inspired by race cars, with a silver-toned base and black counters. The dial includes essential elements for speed and distance calculations, with white Grade XI Super-Luminova® ensuring legibility. The red-tipped central sweep-seconds hand complements the famous red ‘1000 Miglia’ logo.
Powered by a self-winding chronograph movement certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute, the watch offers a 54-hour power reserve. The 4 Hz frequency movement, stop-second function, and tachymeter scale are ideal for competitive drivers. The watch is paired with a perforated black calfskin strap, reminiscent of traditional driving gloves, secured with a Lucent Steel™ pin buckle.
